Market Research

I have been looking into market research and finding out what sort of market we would look to promote our products.
As a team we all agreed that our brand, Kitsch, sits in the market of brands like Cath Kidston. Rather than compete against the likes of well established Cath Kidston we have decided to sell our products through Supermarket retailers.
We feel the likes of Tesco, Waitrose, Sainsburys and many more would be able to promote these products well and we would be able to sell our home wear for a reasonable price in line with the supermarket retailers.

From my research I was able to find an article that supports that retailers have cleaned up in recent years from the home wear market.

Our branding and website

I have explored the brand image and developed a website. For this I have taken on board our brands image, colours and products.

I feel that making a website shows alot about our brand as it shows our products, our pricing and our overall brand focus.

Design Development

I created an image that includes 3 dirrerent sized butterflys around a flower in the center to achive this simply, colourful pattern and used a soft pastel tone for the background. This pattern is to be used for a tea towle, table cloth or napkin depending on what the group decides.

Design Development

I connected the butterflys by each tip of the wings to achieve a similar effect to the black n white checks which inspired this pattern.

Group meeting three

So the meeting last week to share files last week never occurred with us all having other projects that we were far to engrossed in to realise.

We have now agreed that we will complete the designs and branding and continue to be in contact to make sure as a team we have all the work covered but as we all have deadlines coming up we are going to be working independently to get each of out parts done and as we get to the due date we will have a meet where we can get together to collate all our work......

We all seem to be co-operating really well and expressing our concerns, I think as a group we are lucky as we are not afraid to speak our mind and I hope this will mean we can produce a really good group project!!!!

Group meeting two

We had a quick catch up last week, 27th October to find out where we were as a team, we soon realised we were all getting on with our designs and research but at this point we did not have enough to be sharing together.

Today - 3rd November
We had a quick catch up today as we all felt we needed to have a bit more clarity on how we would pull the project together as a team and to decide how we would like the final presentation to be displayed. We have decided to try to present out work in a similar way and to tie the work together to each put the brand logo at the top of each board. Holly and I have been discussing the brand and we have agreed as a team to get together and meet next week to be able to share files so that we are all working off the same thought process.....will let you now how we go.... :)

repetitive pattern ?

With this projects designs i have been looking into lace and the way the patterns repeat i think this would be a good design idea for our butterfly motif.

Starting point for brand development

I have started to look into the branding of your range. I have discovered that the key pointers to consider are ……

Brand image - fonts, images, logo and name.

Brand philosophy – what we stand for.

Brand tag line – easily recognisable as our brand.

These are the main elements that will be considered when forming our brand board.

Group meeting

Today we got together and discussed our initial ideas and route we would take with the home wear pieces. We have assigned an area to each member of the team to take away for the week and meet in a weeks time to see how the designs/research are taking place.

The designers:
Rory, Lara and Ashley - They are going to be designing and producing images of the homewear based on the butterfly motif we have created from the modip item.

The Promoters:
Holly and I (Michelle) - We will be working together to create the brand and market, we will separately have work to show but alot of our part of the project will be working together and researching.

As a team we will also be having regular meetings and giving encouragement and ideas to each other to move forward with the project.

The butterfly motif

I was able to create the butterfly motif by using a photograph of the napkin holder and using illustrator to trace the design.

Sketched ideas for print

Couloured print inspired by black n white square pattern on the wall tiles and floor in mood board. I thought to have kitchen wall tiles with all black butterfly pattern and use black n pink or a multicolour version of the pattern for the table cloth. For the napkin i thought to have the butterfly shape cut into 1 layer of the napkin in bottom corner and have the under layer a diff colour/pattern to the main napkin colour/pattern. I want to keep the feel of the 1950's napkin holder in the designs.

Ashley

wonderful inspiration

Lara- these are some images i have sourced from the Aga and Cath Kidston sites they are just displaying lovely examples of textile accessories with in the kitchen/dining areas.

Kitsch 1950's Kitchen Mood Board

The group project

For our PPRD project we have to work in groups we have been given an object from Modip (Museum of design in plastics). Our teams object is a butterfly napkin holder.

The team objective is a team work challenge to create a product range off the back of the initial object, in our case the napkin holder.
As a team we need to show our evidence of work and we have decided to do this through a blog.
We will also create colour, market and brand boards around our research. We will finally show our finished illustration/ideas through a design board.
